Firearms research and regulations

Did you know that 78% of American adults don't own a gun?

  • Did you know that 3% of American adults own 50% of all guns?

  • Did you know that the CDC is effectively banned from researching gun deaths and injuries?

  • Did you know that the ATF is banned from making its gun records searchable?

  • And just how many deaths is too many?

In an effort to understand the epidemic, it is important to enable the Federal government to sponsor top-quality research. Below are drafts of two emails - one for our Federal officials and another for Minnesota's.

Background information and links to the communications web sites are found under the RESOURCES tab in this website.

It's both quick AND easy!

FEDERAL VERSION

Senator Klobuchar,

Senator Franken,

Representative...

Re: Firearms Research and Data Availability

I am writing to you to ask for your help to create a reasonable regulatory environment for the personal possession of firearms. I believe that Americans have a right to own a gun, but that right is not unlimited or unchecked. Casual gun ownership markedly increases the deadliness of suicides, accidents, and altercations. Ownership, training, and usage limitations lead to a safer society without infringing upon individual rights.

Removing the constraints upon the CDC (research ban) and ATF (non-searchable gun records) would enable us to gain an understanding of the epidemic that we are facing.

I have appreciated your voice and efforts in the past, and I thank you for your continued service.

Please work to make Minnesota a state where firearms are both welcomed and limited by strong, consistent, state-wide regulations.

I have appreciated your voice and efforts in the past, and I thank you for your continued service.
